Sa wakas! Nakapunta din kami sa pinaguusapang 12 Monkeys Pub and Music Hall sa may Century City Mall! I waited a long time to actually be able to hang-out at this place, especially since I used to live almost right next door to the mall and never really got the chance.
Located at the top most floor, 12 Monkeys is slowly becoming the place-to-be for good live music (they have Side-A play there quite often, as well as Kamikazee, Bloomfields, Sinosikat, to name few), reasonably priced drinks, a respectable line-up of DJs and amazing Filipino-inspired comfort foods. And siyempre, we went there for the food (and ako for the drinks…mwahahaha!)
You might say that Filipino food ALREADY is comfort food, but at 12 Monkeys, they went the extra mile. Let’s start with the starters. Two words: SPAM FRIES. ‘Nuff said. One bite and you are hooked. Yes, it is as awesome as it sounds. It’s SPAM, and they made it into fries. I mean… SPAM FRIES?!? With 3 different dips… wha…?!! That would be honey mustard, Kimchi mayo and Cumin ketchup.
We also had the Killer Chicharones for our other appetizer. Otherwise known as “may laman”…
The next thing in the list is Ivan’s Palabok Pizza. All the saucy goodness of palabok sauce, including the eggs and the shrimp, topped on a great pizza dough.
My favorite named dish was the Midnight in Pares. C’mon…sobrang witty kaya?! And I am always in the search for good pares. The beef was tender, savory, flavorful, perfectly infused in that rich dark sauce and served with rice. Pares heaven.
Best in presentation would have to be After Hours Goto Special. Sa soshal eto ay rice porridge with a twist. Ganda ng pagkahain, and when you eat it, it hits you right in the spot. Perfect picker-upper in the wee hours of the morning, or during those cold rainy days.
I didn’t expect to find salad in the menu, but I did. 12 Monkeys dish out a killer Thai Beef salad, complete with the spicy tangy sauce that makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Hindi ko ata napatikim si P masyado ng gulay, but promise worth it sya. The beef strips were perfectly cooked, pink in the middle, done on the edges, and soft and tender to chew.
Of course there were the drinks. Di ako masyadong fan nun strawberry cocktail that was served to me…but that is just me. I was never for fancy cocktails in the first place. Eventually, I turned to my tried and tested, never failing San Miguel Pale Pilsen, and everything was perfect.
Thank you so much to our chicka friend Joie who arranged everything and got us off our asses to go check out the newest happening venue in Makati. Hindi na ako nakatikim ng dessert ata dahil inumpisahan ko na yun beer ko, but D and P loved it!!
For the ultimate Filipino comfort food, check out 12 Monkeys Music Hall and Pub.
With Tim, Joei, P, D, Japee, Von, Rowena and Peter 🙂
