One thing that I have to do religiously now that I am over 30 years old is to keep moisturized. From hair to toe, I just have to religiously make sure I am properly hydrated. I didn’t really used to pay attention to moisturizing, but aging does happen and if one desires to take care of one’s self, one must start down from the basics.
I have really sensitive skin. It dries up if I use a cream or lotion that has too much perfume in it, or too much add ons. So how do you choose the right moisturizer for you?
T, a beautiful hot mestiza, mom of 2 and beauty product chemist (yes chemist…smart and gorgeous, you wanna hate her but she’s so nice and lovely that you just want to hate her more…) told me a little beauty secret — all those different brands of creams that you see on the store shelves, they all have the same ingredients. It may differ in scent and consistency, but they are all basically the same. So I asked her what she uses, knowing what she knows. And after gulping down a sip of G&T, she says “Baby oil.” Ain’t that grand?! She says she even let’s her little girl use it. I thought about T’s revelation for a few days and decided I would follow her lead. I have partially oily and partially dry skin on my face so I was a little afraid what baby oil might do to it. It might make my oily spots get oilier. So I went to my trusty beauty store that I have been patronizing for more than 10 yrs now… Body Shop.
They used to have the spray on extra virgin olive oil which I loved using all over my body. But they phased it out and replaced it with this:
The Olive Beautifying Oil – Dry Oil For Body, Face & Hair. Love it. It lathers smoothly on your skin and then just disappears after a few minutes. It doesn’t have that heavy feeling that creams and lotions tend to leave on your skin.
I use it for all over the body and my face. A few drops will do. And I am properly and confidently moisturized. And interestingly enough the scent is appealing to boys (at least to my 2 brothers..)
I don’t use it for my hair since I still use the pure argan oil I got from Morocco last year. And I only use that once in a while. (See previous blog).
So, if you want an alternative moisturizer, try The Body Shop Olive Beautifying Oil. I believe there are other oil sources too: Coconut, Strawberry, Cocoa Butter, Shea, and more! Have fun and stay moisturized!
