Every year for a few years now, December has held a special place in my heart… and not just because of Christmas and the horrible traffic, but because two of my favorite girls celebrate their birthdays this month.
And this year, upon much thought and consideration, party central was to be at Valkyrie — the newest and most talked about club in Manila. The impressive structure, which could easily accommodate approximately more than a thousand people at any one evening/morning, still managed to make us feel special.
My girls decided to get the big couch on the mezzanine level, which can seat about 20 people. Bottle service (of course) for our chosen poisons for the night; fantastic view of the stage, light show and DJ; and a little dance floor all to ourselves while we watched the crowd on the main floor. I guess had we been younger, we would’ve wanted to be right in the thick of it… but we fancy ourselves *ehem* more mature now… so we got what we got…
One thing that I love doing with these girls is dressing up. Each had their own personal style:
On S: Well, surprise surprise, walang harap (meron likod, promise). I love my sleeveless sparkly silver and black fitted dress. Such a great find from VERO MODA, SM Aura. My shoes – white leather strappies with silver 5” heels from Zara (℅ CJ). This little number did not even cost me P2000. No bag for me that night.
On A: Our fearless leader — Mama Hen (celebrant #1) chose an off-shoulder, glittery black romper from River Island, SM Aura (hmmm…medyo sabay ata kami nag-shop) with a silver belt. She chose to pair it with platinum strap on shoes from Aldo. Her fabulous holiday hair was by Bench Fix – a playful twist for those with shorter hair. Silver bag from Furla (not in photo)
On FSS: The Halimaw writer for all seasons, FSS, who is based in Bangkok, chose a black and white crop top with matching shorts that she got from Jaspal Bangkok… which basically goes with her deceivingly sweet façade. Of the 4 of us, she is the only one lucky enough to have a mother-in-law — that bequeathed her a vintage Cartier clutch (not in photo). Shoes – strappy black heels from Christian Siriano for Payless.
On R: Sporty Spice – kidding. I only say that because celebrant #2 is the only one of us who actually even used to have a sport (black belt in Taekwondo and competed in some national or international something something). Her colorful stylish shorts, which she found in People Are People, was matched in a tasteful sleeveless black blouse with embellishments on the neckline, and nude suede shoes from Aldo.
Best thing about an A and R birthday party is it just gets absolutely over-the-top fun! Friends old and new gather to celebrate with these two fierce and fab women every year… which I guess is the best gift of all.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LADIES!!!
